Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) / Recognition of Current Competence (RCC)?

It is possible to have some prior learning and current competence recognised in order to bypass certain elements of BMX Australia's coaching courses. This may be a coaching course from another sport or other cycling organisation. It is necessary to provide detailed written evidence of achievement of the relevant Training Program's learning outcomes, as outlined by BMX Australia, in accordance with the Australian Sports Commission's guidelines.

For further details of BMX Australia's RPL/RCC process and guidance on applying for RPL/RCC, please email alexandra.bright@cycling.org.au.

Do I need a First Aid qualification?

It is a health and safety requirement of BMX Australia for coaches to hold an up-to-date First Aid certificate.

Do I need Coaching Membership?

If you already possess an open membership with BMX Australia you do not need to also have coaching membership. If however you currently have no BMX Australia membership it is now a requirement for your coach accreditation to do so. This will cover you when coaching anywhere in Australia, and will provide you with public liability, professional indemnity and personal accident cover. The fee will also cover any administration fees.

How do I keep my Coach Accreditation updated?

In order to remain as an accredited BMX Australia NCAS coach, it is necessary to renew accreditation every four years, in accordance with the Australian Sports Commission's Guidelines for the Design and Registration of NCAS and NOAS Accreditation Programs. The NCAS guidelines require coaches to sign the Cycling Australia Code of Ethics form for coaches, a document similar to that which the coaches will have signed when they were first accredited.

In addition, BMX Australia requires a letter from the president, director or secretary of the club or state in which the coach is performing their coaching activities, confirming the extent of their coaching. In conjunction, a coaching log must be submitted to ensure the required number of coaching hours are being undertaken to maintain accreditation (Please note this number is different for the different levels).

The Australian Sports Commission has a series of workshops and events for coaches and officials, which run throughout the year, which can contribute towards keeping your coach accreditation up to date.
