Qualifying for the 2009 World Championships
Currently the BMXA Office have had several queries relating to the qualification process for the UCI World Championships in 2009.
Below is clarification relating to some specific queries received:
To ride the Worlds 2009 as a challenge rider you must qualify by racing your State Championships in 2008, National Championships in 2009 and place in the top 32 at the Nationals (excluding current World plate holders who qualify automatically – ie those that get a plate in China this year are automatically eligible)
If you are an Elite or Junior Elite rider you must attain at least 1 ranking point in a UCI round or Nationals Championships in the 2008/09 season to be eligible to race Jnr or Snr Elite. Page 43 of the UCI rule book sets out the points but essentially Jnr & Snr Elite have to make a semi at the Worlds or a Supercross event to earn a point. At a UCI ranking round Snr Elite need to make a semi-final to gain a ranking point – Junior Elite need to make a final to earn a point. At Nationals both Jnr & Snr Elite need to make a final to earn a point.
Elite riders who have not attained a ranking point after the Nationals champs 2009 will be able to top up the challenge classes (to 32 riders) as long as 32 riders have not already qualified and have indicated their attendance at the Worlds in 2009.
Below is further information relating specific qualification criteria If you have any further queries please contact the BMX Australia Office.
